Biology and ecology of arthropod pests (phytophagous beetles, aphids and other herbivorous taxa); pre-dispersal seed predation (mainly in Carduoideae), biological control, invasion ecology (Coccinellidae and Curculionidae), ecological entomology (temperature effects on insect development); insect-plant interactions – herbivory, seed predation by invertebrates (in particular carabid beetles), environmental factors of insect development; ecology, biology and morphology of immature stages and taxonomy of Curculionidae.
Collaborations
Morphology of the immature stages of the superfamily Curculionoidea (close cooperation with Rafał Gosik (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin, Poland). But there are several topics according to taxonomical groups (e.g. Lixinae, Mecinini, Tychiini, etc) with different members.
Taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography of weevils of the tribe Hyperini (with Herbert Winkelmann and other specialists in Curculionoidea).
Taxonomy and phylogeny of the superfamily Curculionoidea – Taxonomical studies of weevils from other taxons than Hyperini are ever done in the cooperation with other colleagues (e.g., Roman Borovec, Jan Batelka, Peter Hlaváč).
