IBM 2023 general info

Dear colleagues,
we would like to inform you that the registration of participants & abstracts is open for the Immature Beetles Meeting 2023. We will be very happy to see you at this traditional biannual get-together on immature beetle biology.

IBM registration

You can still register to the meeting through the online registration form accessible under the following link: https://forms.gle/McbPHTA7PwseihPb9

If you want to join us personally, please fill the registration form. If you already know that you want to present a poster or a talk, you can already specify the topic. If you change your mind later (register a poster or a talk etc.), please, let us know by e-mail.

Of course, abstracts of all presented posters and talks will be published in Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae (AEMNP): https://www.aemnp.eu/

Dates and deadlines

The registration without any contribution (poster or presentation) will be open up to 31st of August 2023.

If you want to have any contribution, please register up to 15th of August 2023. We will confirm the successful registration of any poster or talk. Please, submit the abstracts for your contributions till 31st August.

The meeting is scheduled for October 5th, and October 6th, 2023. IBM 2023 will directly predate the autumn Insect Fair as usual.
The meeting will consist, as usual, of one and a half a day of oral presentations, a poster session, as well as informal discussion during breaks (this time we will give you more time for chatting as you wish this a lot). The very important part of the meeting will also be the traditional discussions over the delicious Czech beer during evenings, nights, and maybe even early mornings.

The meeting has no registration fee. Of course, we will be grateful if you share this invitation to IBM with your friends, students, and colleagues!

For any questions or comments, kindly write to us at our IBM e-mail: immaturebeetlesmeeting@gmail.com

We are looking forward to meeting you in Prague!

With best regards,

Albert F. Damaška a Jiří Skuhrovec

ADDITIONAL INFO ABOUT IBM

The Immature Beetles Meeting was first organized in 2007, and aimed as a meeting to facilitate the discussions of students working on beetle immature stages with more experienced colleagues. Since then, it is organized every second year, and became pretty international: 63 scientists from Europe, Asia, South America and New Zealand participated in 2017, for example. The aim is still the same, i.e. to enable the communication among people working on immature stages of different beetle group, and to get younger students and newbies in contact with more experienced colleagues, enthusiastic amateurs etc.

ORGANIZATION ETC.

Meeting fees:

  • None!

PRESENTATIONS, POSTERS, ABSTRACTS

Oral presentation:

  • Presentations are the main core of the meeting, hence we are encouraging most participants to prepare a short presenation showing the results of your research, preliminary results of your student project, or simply any interesting finding or piece of information you would like to share and discuss with others.
  • Visitors without presentation are welcome as well, as they usually contribute largely to the discussions. Still, we will press all younger participants to take the active rather than passive role, at least until the programme of the meeting is filled in.
  • Length of presentation: 5-20 minutes + 5-10 minutes of discussion.
  • We leave the decision of the length of the presentation on you – if you would like just to show a small interesting finding you did, go for shorter time, if you would like to present results of your larger project, feel free to use 20 minutes.

Posters:

  • Presentation of posters is possible, and posters will be presented during coffee breaks. Please prepare your poster at any size up to A0 in the „portrait“ orientation.

Abstracts:

  • Abstracts for both oral presentations and posters are required. Abstracts will be available to all participants during the meeting and will be subsequently published in Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae in December 2023.
  • How to prepare an abstract: Abstracts are supposed to be a short summary (ideally one or two paragraphs) summarizing the contents of your talk/poster. Figures are not expected to be part of the abstracts. See the abstracts of the last IBM meeting and follow the same formatting when preparing your abstract.
